c. Reduce energy usage Mass production requires a mass amount of energy. One ton of recycled plastic saves 5,774 Kwh of energy;

d. Save Space Landfill space is running out of space. The U.S. has 3,091 active landfills and over 10,000 old municipal landfills, according to the Environmental Protection Agency;

e. Save Money Because it costs less money to recycle than to location, harvest, transport and produce new products ; and

f. Save Natural Resources. No need to harvest new material.

The total MSW recycled was 69 million tons, with paper and paperboard accounting for 67 percent of that amount. Metals were made up of about 13 percent, while glass, plastic and wood were made up between 4 and 5 percent.
